Old time country 1989–1994

Published between 1988 and 1994 by the Center for the Study of Southern Culture at the University of Mississippi, Old time country evolved from the newsletter of the Jimmie Rodgers Memorial Association. Under the editors W.K. McNeil and David Nelson, it featured pieces based upon first-hand reportage alongside historical research and sociocultural analysis. Committed to traditional forms of country music, the magazine often featured big country stars of the 1930s and 1940s on their covers, such as Wilf Carter, Gene Autry, and Lulu Belle.
